Virbhadra accepts defeat, says 'disappointed' not 'disheartened'

Shimla, Dec 28 (UNI) Conceding defeat in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly election, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today said the party was ''disappointed'' but not ''disheartened'' at the defeat.

'' The party will analyse results to find out the causes behind the party's defeat and take remedial measures,''he said and exuded confidence that the party will emerge more vibrant out of the setback and meet future challenges successfully.

Congratulating the BJP and its chief ministerial candidate Prem Kumar Dhumal for the saffron party's win in the elections, the outgoing Chief Minister said the Congress will play the role of a responsible Opposition both in and outside the Assembly.

He expressed confidence that the BJP will provide renewed momentum to the pace of development in the hill state, ''solid foundation of which has already been laid by the Congress''.

Earlier, a meeting of the state cabinet, presided over by the Chief Minister, recommended the dissolution of the state assembly paving the way for the formation of new BJP government in the state.

Nepal's parliament passes a bill to declare Nepal a fedearl republic

Kathmandu, Dec 28 (UNI) Nepal's parliament has endorsed the constitutional amendment bill turning the Himalayan nation into a federal democratic republic, which will be implemented by the first meeting of constituent assembly. Speaker Subash Nemwang said that out of 273 MPs, who participated in the voting, 270 voted in favour of the constitutional amendment while three voted against it. All the major political parties were in favour of declaring the Himalayan nation a republic except the royalist Rastriya Prajatantra Party......

Russian killed, passengers looted in train in UP

Chitrakoot, Dec 28 (UNI) Unidentified miscreants shot dead a Russian women, grievously injuring another local woman, besides robbing passengers aboard the Varanasi-Mumbai Kamyani Express here this morning. The incident occurred near Manikpur railway station, where masked men barged into the AC-2 coach. The deceased was identified as Limoya Hidoja (47). When passengers resisted the robbery, the burglars opened fire and flew the coop with jewellery and cash worth Rs 50 lakh. The women received severe bullet wounds and were rushed.....

4 houses set on fire by TPC ultras in Jharkhand

Daltonaganj, Dec 28 (UNI) The Tritiya Prastuti Committee (TPC) ultras set on fire four houses in Goriachora village under Hussainabad police station area in Palamu district of Jharkhand early today. Police said property worth about Rs 3 lakh was damaged in the incident. One of the house belonged to self-styled zonal commander of prescribed CPI(Maoist), police added. UNI.....
