Srinagar, Dec 28 (UNI) Militant violence, killings of security forces personnel and civilians has come down considerably during 2007, official reports said.

Since January to ending November this year, the number of militancy related incidents has come down by 33 per cent.

Similarly killing of civilians by militants and in the cross firing has also registered 59 per cent decrease, the report said, adding security force killing has come down by 28 per cent over the corresponding period of the previous year.

It said a proposal of the statement government for deployment of 5000 more Special Police Officers (PSOs) has been approved by the centre.

With this the total number of SPOs will be 30,474.

During the same period security forces foiled more than 50 infiltration bid and killed about 100 militants immediately after they sneaked into this side from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK).

However, the infiltration from across the border has also decreased as compared to previous years.

More than 100 militants and their families also surrendered before the security forces near the border after their return from POK during the past two years.

Security forces and police eliminated over a dozen top commanders of different militant outfits during the period.
