Special rehabilitation project soon for flood affected:Governor

Bangalore, Dec 28 (UNI) Karnataka Governor Rameshwar Thakur today said that the state government would come out within next five days a special project for rehabilitation of people affected by floods in the districts of Dharwad, Gadag and Bagalkot.

Talking to reporters after his weekly meeting with Executive Committee, he said that the High Level Committee headed by Advisor P P Prabhu had conducted a spot study of the flood-hit districts in the last season and would now prepare the project for rehabilitation.

The cost and the extent of help to be extended to the people particularly Below Poverty Line would be decided in the next few days, he added.

He said that some of the villages have to be shifted fully while others partially to save them from recurring floods in these districts.

The meeting also discussed on the process of preparation of set of reservations for the posts of Mayor, Deputy Mayor, President and Vice President of Urban Local Bodies by giving priority to rotation system based on the 2001 census.

The operational guidelines would be issued on the process of reservation by next week, he said.

Security tightened at beaches, vulnerable places in Goa

Temperatures remain steady throughout the state

Kolkata, Dec 28 (UNI) Temperatures throughout the state remained steady today with the minimum temperature hovering around 13 degrees Celsius. Met officals here informed that although it was foggy earlier in the day, later on it was mainly clear . The maximum temperature in the city was recorded at 25.1 degrees Celsius, two degrees below normal, while the minimum was pegged at 13.6 degrees Celsius. According to the North Bengal University Recording Station, the temperatures in the hills had risen.....

Nuclear energy is clean and promotes self-reliance:Kakodkar

Panaji, Dec 28 (UNI) Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Anil Kakodkar today said that the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) continues to work with the universities for higher research in nuclear techologies including Thorium for energy production. Replying to the felicitation by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh after the top nuclear scientist was conferred honorary Doctor of Litters(D.Litt)(Honoris Causa) at the 20th Annual Convocation of the Goa University here today, he said India was identified as advanced nuclear technology leader with self-reliant.....
