Special rehabilitation project soon for flood affected

Bangalore, Dec 28 (UNI) Karnataka Governor Rameshwar Thakur today said that the state government would come out with a special project for rehabilitation of people affected by floods in the districts of Dharwad, Gadag and Bagalkot, within a few weeks.

Talking to reporters after his weekly meeting with Executive Committee, he said the High Level Committee headed by Advisor P P Prabhu had conducted a spot study of the flood-hit districts in the last season and would now prepare the project for rehabilitation.

The cost and the extent of help to be extended to the people particularly those Below Poverty Line would be decided in the next few days, he added.

He said some of the villages have to be shifted fully and others partially, to save them from recurring floods in these districts.

The meeting also discussed the process of preparation of a set of reservations for the posts of Mayor, Deputy Mayor, President and Vice President of Urban Local Bodies by giving priority to rotation system based on the 2001 census.

The operational guidelines would be issued on the process of reservation by next week, he said.
