Railways men, Chhattisgarh eves bag third place

Puducherry, Dec 28 (UNI) Indian Railways men and Chhattisgarh women bagged the third place in the 58th senior national basketball championship here, today.

Railways men secured the third place, outplaying Uttarkhand 105-95.

In the women's event, Chhattisgarh annexed the third position, edging out Tamil Nadu 67-59.

The finals in both the men's and women's events would be played here this evening.

Results: Men: Indian Railways 105 (Edwinder Singh 36, Birender Singh 16) beat Uttarkhand 95 (Pradeep Rai 31, Suresh Rane 22).

Women: Chhattisgarh 67 (Pushpa 23) beat Tamil Nadu 59 (Nithya 22, Sunita Suren 12).

Melbourne, Dec 28 (UNI) Cricket Australia (CA) has said that the Aussie tour of Pakistan next year is on despite the assassination of opposition leader Benazir Bhutto which has sparked widespread unrest in the country. 623 star tortoises seized, one arrested

Chennai, Dec 28 (UNI) As many as 623 live star tortoises, worth Rs five lakh in the international market, were seized from a passenger of the Chennai-Colombo Sri Lankan Airlines at the Anna International airport here, last night. Agartala, Dec 28: The Ministry of Rural Development has sanctioned Rs 4 crore towards administrative, quality control and travel expenses to Tripura Rural Roads Development Agency (TRRDA) for the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). State Rural Development Minister Jitendra Choudhury today informed that according to the guidelines, TRRDA, an autonomous agency for receiving the funds for the PMGSY, was set up in the state.
