Railway Ministry suspends Samjahuta and Thar Express

New Delhi, Dec 28 (UNI) The Railway Ministry today announced that it had suspended the operation of Samjhauta Express and Thar Express -- the two trains connecting India and Pakistan -- on account of security considerations following the political turmoil in Pakistan.

In a statement, the ministry said the two trains had been suspended with immediate effect on account of ''security considerations'' in the wake of Pakistan People's Party Chairperson Benazir Bhutto's assassination in Rawalpindi yesterday.

''The 4001/4002 Delhi-Attari Link Express, 4607/4608 Samjhauta Express, 405/406 Munabao-Khokrapar Thar Express and 4889/4890 Jodhpur-Munabao-Jodhpur Link Express have been cancelled with immediate effect until further notice,'' the ministry said.

It said the Pakistan Railways had also been informed about the decision.

Janardhan Reddy brought dead at hospital

Hyderabad, Dec 28 (UNI) Senior Congress Leader and Khairatabad MLA P Janardhan Reddy was declared brought dead at the hospital after he collapsed at a meeting venue here today. The doctors of Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), where Mr Reddy was admitted, told mediapersons that Mr Reddy's heart was not functioning when he was admitted to the hospital. The Congress leader, who was a diabetic, also suffered from kidney and heart ailments. He was brought to the hospital.....

Jammu, Dec 28 (UNI) The assassination of former Pakistan Prime Minister Benzir Bhutto at a rally has triggered widespread condemnation in Jammu and Kashmir with various political parties believing the turbulent democratic situation in the neighbourhood could hit the ongoing peace process between the two countries. Chandigarh, Dec 28: CPM general secretary Parkash Karat today said the assassination of former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto would effect the ongoing peace process between India and Pakistan.
