New Law for workers in unorganised sector soon

Jaipur, Dec 28 (UNI) Social activist Swami Agnivesh today said the Centre has assured for enactment of new law for ensuring due labour rights, social security, safety measures and justified minimum wages for workers in unorganised sector.

Talking to newspersons here, he said in response to the popular demand the Centre had already constituted a committee for the purpose.

He also expressed serious concern over poor living conditions of mining workers in Rajasthan and urged the state government to take effective measures for prevention of diseases like Silicosis.

The Arya Samaj leader was in the town to participate in the national seminar on problems of mining workers organised by Gravis Headcon.

Rajasthan State Human Rights Commission Chairman Justice N K Jain and around 100 other delegates from eight states participated in the seminar.

IIT-K announces Rs 400 Cr expansion of infrastructure

Kolkata, Dec 28 (UNI) Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, today announced a major expansion plan in its infrastructure capacity to accommodate more students and enlarge its academic programmes. The Chairman of the Board of Governors, Sanjiv Goenka, after unveiling a cluster of foundation stones, said ''This is by far the largest and perhaps the most ambitious amongst all recent investments in education in this country.'' Altogether, Rs 400 crore would be invested in phased manner for expansion programme of the country's.....

Adampur touches minus 0.6 degrees, 3 more die in UP

New Delhi, Dec 28 (UNI) Cold wave conditions continued to sweep Northwest India with the mercury hovering one degree to five degrees below normal at many places in the region, touching minus 0.6 degree Celsius at Adampur in Punjab today, while three more lives were lost to intense cold conditions in Uttar Pradesh. The holy city of Amritsar witnessed 0.6 degrees while Halwara airbase near Ludhiana was cold at 2.8 degrees. The Union Territory of Chandigarh was cold at 7.2 degrees,.....
