Nepali Congress to open office in New Delhi

Kathmandu, Dec 28 (UNI) The oldest and biggest democratic party of the Himalayan nation, Nepali Congress has decided to establish a permanent party liaison office in New Delhi to further consolidate its relations with India, media reports said here today.

"It is necessary to develop a center or office of the Nepali Congress in New Delhi," Kantipur quoted vice president of the party and Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Ram Chandra Poudel as saying.

Mr Poudel was in New Delhi recently where he met various leaders of the ruling and opposition including External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee.

"The office in New Delhi also strengthen the party organization among expatriate Nepalis living in the southern neighboring country," he said.

Prime Minister and party president Girija Prasad Koirala have already talked to Delhi Chief Minister Shila Dixit to help make necessary arrangements for the purpose, Kantipur news reported said.

NC has reportedly requested the Indian government to provide land for building the liaison office.

Nepali Congress is considered to be very close with India and Indian leaders as the party was formed in the country sixty years ago.
