Shimla, Dec 28 (UNI) Mahinder Singh, BJP's candidate from Dharampur constituency in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh, has recorded five straight victories in as many assembly elections from different parties every time.
Mr Singh first contested and won the assembly elections from Dharampur in 1990 as an independent, defeating BJP's Priya Vrat.
He won the 1993 assembly elections, this time on a Congress ticket, again defeating BJP's Ms Vrat and later resigned from it to join former union minister Sukh Ram's Himachal Vikas Congress (HVC) party.
Mr Singh, who was one of the four HVC leaders to win the 1998 assembly elections, later became a minister in the previous BJP government, which was supported by the HVC.
However, after he was asked to resign from the ministry following charges of corruption against him, he formed his own Himachal Loktantrik Morcha (HLM) and won the 2003 elections under it.
Later, he joined the BJP and recorded his fifth straight win from Dharampur constituency in these assembly elections, defeating his nearest Congress rival Mr Chandershekhar with a margin of over 9,000 votes.
