Kumaraswamy to be discharged tomorrow

Bangalore, Dec 28 (UNI) Former Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, who underwent an open heart surgery for replacement of valve in the heart at a super speciality hospital here recently, will be discharged tomorrow.

Talking to newspersons at the hospital today, he said, ''I am completely fit and within a month I would be ready to lead the party in the coming mid-term elections to the State Assembly.'' Mr Kumaraswamy thanked the doctors, who performed the operation, and other medical staff.

Defending his taking treatment in a private hospital instead of the state-run Jayadeva Hospital, he said, ''If I was admitted there, then the entire attention would have been on me and it would have affected the common people.'' The JD(S) leader was admitted to Wockhardt Hospital here after he complained of frequent chest pain. He underwent surgery on December 20.

Security beefed up in Kutch to check infiltration

Bhuj, Dec 28 (UNI) The International border in Kutch district of Gujarat, bordering Pakistan, has been put on high alert following reports of rise in infiltration from across the border in the wake of the assassination of former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, whose funeral was held at Larkhana in Sindh, bordering Kutch. 'No VIP darsan during New Year Day': TTD

Tirumala, Dec 28 (UNI) Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) today decided not to distribute VIP darshan tickets on New Year Day to avoid inconvenience to general pilgrims visiting the Lord Venkateswara temple here. According to TTD sources, the Board also decided to allow common people for darshan from 0300 hrs. As the number of pilgrims would be in lakhs on December 31 and January 1, additional security forces would be deployed, sources said. DDA passes budget estimates for year 2008-09

New Delhi, Dec 28 (UNI) The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) today approved the revised budget estimates for the year 2007-2008 and the budget estimates for the year 2008-2009. The budget estimates for the year 2008-2009, passed at a meeting of the DDA chaired by Delhi Lt Governor Tejender Khanna, envisages increased expenditure on new development works/schemes proposed to be undertaken in Rohini, Dwarka, Narela, Dheerpur, Jasola, Bakkarwala and payment to DMRC.
