Kumaraswamy to be discharged from hospital tomorrow

Bangalore, Dec 28 (UNI) Former Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, who underwent open heart surgery for replacement of valve in the heart at a super speciality hospital here recently, would be discharged tomorrow.

The JD(S) leader was admitted to Wockhardt Hospital here after he complained of frequent chest pain. He was operated upon on December 20.

Speaking to newspersons at the Hospital today he said, "I am completely fit and within a month I would be ready to lead the party in the coming mid-term elections to the State Assembly." Mr Kuamraswamy thanked the doctors who performed the operation and the other medical staff.

Replying to a question, Mr Kumaraswamy defended taking treatment in a private hospital instead of State run Jayadeva Hospital. "I did not wanted to deny common man getting treatment in the government hospital. If I was admitted there then entire attention would have been on me and it would have affected treatment of public, which I did not like".

New Delhi, Dec 28 (UNI) The resident editor of an English daily today appeared before the Speaker of the Delhi Legislative Assembly Prem Singh following a Privilege notice accepted in the House yesterday against it in connection with an article appearing in the December 27 edition of the newspaper. Mr Prem Singh told the House today that the resident editor of the Times of India Arindam Sengupta and a senior officer of the daily appeared before him this morning in connection.....

Cold wave sweeps region; Adampur records minus 0.6 degrees celsius

Chandigarh, Dec 28 (UNI) Cold wave swept north-west India wave with the mercury hovering one degree to five degrees below normal at many places in the region, touching minus 0.6 degrees Celsius at Adampur in Punjab today. People groaned under piercing cold wave even as a dense fog enveloped several areas, reducing visibility to 500 metres at Udhampur, 700 metres at Palam in Delhi and 800 metres at Sarsawa in the morning. Cold wave swept parts of Punjab and Haryana.....
