JD(U), AIMMM condemns Benazir's assassination

New Delhi, Dec 28 (UNI) Janata Dal (United) president Sharad Yadav today condemned the brutal and tragic assassination of former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.

''Ms Bhutto was a charismatic and outstanding leader and her contribution to the bi-lateral relations between India and Pakistan will be long remembered,'' Mr Yadav said in his condolence message here.

He expressed his heartfelt condolence to the members of the bereaved family.

President of All India Muslim Majlis-E-Mushawarat (AIMMM) Syed Shahabuddin also expressed his deep shock at the assassination of the former Pakistan Prime Minister and the leader of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP).

''It is a great tragedy for Pakistan and has horrified the common man all over the sub continent,'' Mr Shahabuddin said in his condolence message. He said the AIMMM condemned the killing which was ''politically motivated and well planned'' and offered its sincere condolences to the people of Pakistan and in particular to the leaders, members and supporters of the PPP.

''The assassination of Ms Bhutto at this juncture will not only destabilise Pakistan but put a question mark on its very survival as a functional state in the long term which demands delegitimising and controlling the cult of violence and terrorism,'' the AIMMM president said.

The immediate task of the people of Pakistan was to restore constitutional democracy in the country, he added.

Culture Ministry keen to organise Hindi Conference

New Delhi, Dec 28 (UNI) Union Culture Minister Ambika Soni today said her ministry would discuss the possibility of organising a Hindi Sammelan on January 10, 2009, on the occasion of 'World Hindi Divas', with the ministries of External Affairs and Human Resource Development. Addressing a meeting of 'Hindi Salahakar Samiti' attached to the Culture Ministry, Ms Soni said Hindi language has a special place in Indian culture and hence her ministry shares more responsibility for its development and promotion......

Train passenger stabbed to death, Rs 80,000 robbed

Bangalore, Dec 28 (UNI) In a macabre incident, one passenger of Bangalore-Guwhati passenger was stabbed to death and two others were injured by a three member gang who escaped with booty of Rs 80,000 in the early hours today. According to police, Akmal Hussain (48) was returning to West Bengal with his wife and uncle when the robbers entered the general compartment in which they were traveling and started teasing Bibijan for which uncle took strong exception. Four nabbed for cow slaughter in Kapasan

Chittorgarh, Dec 28 (UNI) Four people were arrested in connection with incident of cow slaughter in Kapasan town of this district on Id-ul-Zuha, Superintendent of Police Bhupendra Sahu said. Mr Sahu said police had also recovered a dagger allegedly used by the accused in killing the bovine. The accused have made confession statement before the police.
