Investing in environ management profitable: Malone

Kolkata, Dec 28 (UNI) Canadian High Commissioner to India David Malone today said industrialists in India and Canada should understand the long term benefits of investing in environment management.

While addressing an interactive session on ''India-Canada: A Study in Contrast,'' Mr Malone spoke on the need for both the governments to look into the environmental problems faced worldwide.

''Canada and India being among the larger countries need to be more careful about the environmental matters since its a global issue,'' he said.

''Long coastlines in both the countries should prompt the governments to address issues related to marine life, industrial wastes and global warming,'' he added.

He lauded the West Bengal goverment for encouraging foreign investments and facilitating investors from the state to invest abroad.

Indian and Canadian companies must exchange research results in environment and energy production and learn from each other's experience to bring about a profitable solution to these issues.

India and Canada can gain from learning from each other's experiences in eco-friendly energy production, which until recently was believed to be unprofitable, he added.
