Govt plans to construct 75 lakh houses for poor: CM

Hyderabad, Dec 28 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today said the government proposed to construct 75 lakh houses for the poor in the state by next year end.

Addressing the 'Congress Foundation Day' meeting organised by the Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee here, he said the government had also planned to provide irrigation water to one crore acres by investing Rs one lakh crore.

The government had already issued pensions to 46 lakh people and it would be increased to 60 lakh in due course.

The Chief Minister said the government provided loans worth Rs 2,300 crore to women SHGs at three per cent interest rate last year and it would be increased to Rs 7,000 crore this year.

He called upon the party workers to take the state government's developmental programmes to the people to win their confidence.

AICC Secretary Iqbal Singh, Local MLAs, MPs and large number of party workers attended the function.

Five convicted in HSD misappropriation case, awarded 5 yrs RI

Kochi, Dec 28 (UNI) A special CBI court today convicted five people, including former Deputy Manager (refinary co-ordination) of South Exchange Pit Nataraja Aiyer of misusing his official post for illegally transferring High Speed Diesel (HSD) to four firms.
