Fact finding team should assess the situation-Christian Council

Bhubaneswar, Dec 28 (UNI) The All India Christian Council (AICC) today urged the Civil society to set up a fact finding team and visit the affected areas of Kandhmal district to assess the situation.

AICC Secretary General Johan Dayal has alleged that many prayer houses and institutions were damaged during the communal clashes as the administration did not take any step till today to prevent attacks on Christians.

A government which could not maintain the law and order should resign, he demanded.

Mr Dayal said only a balanced fact finding team could assess the situation independently.

Mr Dayal also demanded adequate compensation to the injured and deployment of central paramilitary forces to protect the people and their property.

The Secretary General said he was not satisfied with the judical inquiry ordered by the Chief Minister and demanded a CBI inquiry into the incident.

He urged the government to provide list of casualties and damages of religious places to the members of the National Council for Minority, scheduled to visit on January 6 to 8.

Resident editor of Daily appears before Assembly Speaker

Cold wave sweeps region; Adampur records minus 0.6 degrees celsius

Chandigarh, Dec 28 (UNI) Cold wave swept north-west India wave with the mercury hovering one degree to five degrees below normal at many places in the region, touching minus 0.6 degrees Celsius at Adampur in Punjab today. People groaned under piercing cold wave even as a dense fog enveloped several areas, reducing visibility to 500 metres at Udhampur, 700 metres at Palam in Delhi and 800 metres at Sarsawa in the morning. Adampur coldest in Punjab at -0.6 degree Celsius

Jalandhar, Dec 28 (UNI) Adampur airbase near here today turned out to be the coldest place in Punjab, recording season's lowest temperature at minus 0.6 degree Celsius. A Defence spokesperson said the holy city of Amritsar witnessed 0.6 degree Celsius while Halwara airbase near Ludhiana was cold at 2.8 degree Celsius. The minimum temperature recorded at Pathankot was 3.6 degree, while in Bathinda it was 5.4 degree Celsius. The Union Territory of Chandigarh was cold at 7.2 degree celsius, while.....
