ECIL has huge plans in healthcare sector: CMD

Tirupati, Dec 28 (UNI) The Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) has drawn up ambitious plans to introduce Digital Radiology System aimed at bringing cost-effective healthcare solutions to rural masses, Company Chairman and Managing Director K S Rajasekhara Rao said here today.

Speaking to reporters after a board meeting, Mr Rao said for this purpose, ECIL proposed to enter into an understanding with an US company for manufacture of High Resolution LCD Monitors at its facility here.

ECIL was currently engaged in executing the pilot phase of Multipurpose National Identity Card (MNIC) Project initiated by the Centre under which ID cards would be given to every citizen.

The bulk manufacturing of cards will be taken up in the Tirupati Unit in the next one or two months only after it gets the green signal from the government.

Mr Rao claimed the ECIL would bring forth a revolution by making available affordable healthcare solutions to the consumers.

The company had also developed 'Market Yard Management System'- a total IT solution based on intelligent kiosk -- for farmers.

The kiosk will provide information like weather forecast and market prices of seeds among others to farmers, in voice mode, in 14 official languages.

The company proposed to manufacture such smart kiosks in Tirupati unit besides gearing up additionally for production of new product stream namely low cost personal computers.

Probe into Samjhauta blasts still inconclusive

Chandigarh, Dec 28 (UNI) The probe into the Samjhauta Express blasts that left 68 people, mostly Pakistanis, dead on February 18 this year, remains inconclusive even over ten months after the tragedy. Admitting that the Haryana Police could not bring the probe into the case to a conclusion so far, Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) R S Dalal said the investigators managed to take the probe to Indore from where the terrorists purchased suitcases in which bombs were planted.....

Slight relief as mercury climbs to 6.5 deg C

New Delhi, Dec 28 (UNI) After the biting cold in Delhi yesterday with the mercury recording 4.8 degree Celsius, the minimum rose two notches today. The minimum temperature was 6.5 degree Celsius, which was normal. Yesterday, the minimum temperature was two degree below normal. The maximum temperature, however, dipped by a degree, recording 21.3 degree Celsius. The Met office forecast a mainly clear sky for tomorrow with the minimum likely to remain at 7 degree Celsius.
