City cops to treat non-drinkers with candies this new year

Lucknow, Dec 28 (UNI) As a token of appreciation for those who prefer not to drink this new year eve, cops in the Uttar Pradesh capital would treat such people with candies.

SSP (Lucknow) Akhil Kumar said here today besides deploying a number of breath analysers to check drunken driving, policemen would also be provided with sweets and candies to be distributed to those drivers who prefer not to drink on new year's eve.

''It would be a token of appreciation...we want people to avoid the dangerous mix of driving and drinking,'' he added.

Besides, the city police would also recommend people returning from new year bashes to allow the person who has not consumed liquor to drive the vehicle. ''People who consume little alcohol can drive without putting the lives of others in danger,'' he said.
