Chimpanzees are real mummy's boys!

London, Dec 28 (UNI) If you feel that oedipus complex is found only in human beings, then think again as a new study suggests that male chimpanzees are real mummy's boys.

According to a report published today in the journal Current Biology, adult male chimpanzees are fond of spending time with their mothers and eating at home. Sometimes, they even prefer all this to sex.

In the study, the researchers examined the movements of male chimpanzees dwelling in Gombe National Park, Tanzania, the Daily Telegraph reported.

''Males remain faithful to the area in which they grew up with their mother, even 20 years after she has died,'' Minnesota University's Professor Anne Pusey said.

''Even alpha males, who could presumably compete successfully to forage in the most productive areas, instead continue to forage in the areas in which they grew up, even in cases where this area is of poor quality,'' she added.

Roaming around such places may give chimpanzees an advantage when they search for food and the need to eat can sometimes trump the need to have sex so their genes are passed on to future generations, the research noted.
