Centre to sympathetically consider TN's plea for flood relief

Tiruchirapalli, Dec 28 (UNI) The Centre will sympathetically consider the Tamil Nadu Government's plea for Rs 1,500 crore Central assistance to carry out relief and rehabilitation works in the rain-hit areas of the State, soon after receipt of a formal request, Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram said today.

Talking to newspersons here, he said the Union Government was yet to receive any formal request from Tamil Nadu in this regard.

On a direction from Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to assess the extent of damage after incessant rains played havoc in the State, the Revenue Administration had recommended that the State could approach the Centre for an assistance of Rs 1510.87 crore to take up relief works. Revenue Administration Commissioner Sakthikanta Doss had presented a report in this regard to Mr Karunanidhi at the Secretariat yesterday.

The torrential rains had claimed the lives of over 70 people, devastated paddy crops in thousands of acres, besides causing extensive damage to roads, culverts, bridges and houses.

WNS to set up delivery centre in Navi Mumbai

Mumbai, Dec 28: BPO service provider WNS on Thursday said it would establish a delivery centre in an approved Special Economic Zone in Navi Mumbai. The New York-listed company would have 3,800 seats in the centre, located near here that would go live from December 2008, it said in a statement. Infosys Q3 results on January 11

Bangalore, Dec 28: IT bellwether Infosys today said it would announce its results for the third quarter of the current fiscal on January 11. The results would also be available on the company website, www.infosys.com. Infosys, in a release here, said its CEO and Managing Director S Gopalakrishnan, COO S D Shibulal, CFO V Balakrishnan and other members of the senior management would comment on the company's performance in a telecast by CNBC-TV18 as part of its 'boardroom' series.....

BJP leading to gain power in HP

Shimla, Dec 28 (UNI) The BJP was maintaining its lead over ruling Congress, which continued to trail according to the latest counting trends available for the 68-member Himachal Pradesh Assembly. Both Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh (Rohru) and BJP's chief ministerial candidate Prem Kumar Dhumal (Bamsan) have won. Former minister J P Nadda has won the seat for BJP from Bilaspur. BJP was leading in 42 seats according to available trends. The Congress is leading in 22 seats while others.....
