Buses to Pakistan cancelled due to tense situation

Attari-Wagah, Dec 28 (UNI) The Indian government today cancelled two Pakistan bound buses operating through this checkpost due to the prevailing situation in that country following the assassination of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairperson and former prime minister Benazur Bhutto at Rawalpindi yesterday.

Official sources here said that following reports of violence in Pakistan in the aftermath of the assassination, the Amritsar-Nankana Sahib and Delhi-Lahore bus had been cancelled. The buses may operate tomorrow, situation permitting, officials stated.

However, the bus to Delhi arrived from Lahore this morning and later left for the National Capital. Meanwhile a number of non-Pakistani tourists arrived at the checkpost today from across the border following the tense situation.

The Border Security Force (BSF) stepped up vigil at the check post and along the 553 km long Indo-Pak border in Punjab.

Kumaraswamy to lead JD(S) in Assembly polls

Bangalore, Dec 28 (UNI) Former Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy today said he would lead the Janata Dal(Secular) in the coming elections the State Assembly. Talking to mediapersons at the Wockhardt Hospital here, where he underwent an open heart surgery recently, he said, ''I would lead the party in the coming Assembly elections and ensure the JD(S) comes to power with a majority on its own.'' New Delhi, Dec 28 (UNI) Describing the assasination of Pakistan's Opposition leader Benazir Bhutto as "shocking and condemnable", former Prime Minister V P Singh today expressed the hope that her sacrifice will strengthen the forces of democracy and peace in Pakistan. FIR should be lodged against officials for instigating suicide:_BJP

Lucknow, Dec 28 (UNI) Eventhough the Mayawati Government has scrapped the auction process in Lakhimpur Kheri district which led to suicide by two people, Uttar Pradesh unit of BJP today demanded that criminal cases should be lodged against the district officials for instigating the people to commit suicide.
