Buses to Pakistan cancelled due to situation

Attari-Wagah, Dec 28 (UNI) The Indian government today cancelled two Pakistan bound buses operating through this checkpost due to the prevailing situation in Pakistan following the assassination of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairperson and former prime minister Benazur Bhutto at Rawalpindi yesterday.

Officials sources here said that following reports of violence in Pakistan in the aftermath of the assassination, the Amritsar-Nankana Sahib and Delhi-Lahore bus had been cancelled. The buses may operate tomorrow, situation permitting, officials stated.

However the bus to Delhi arrived from Lahore this morning and later left for the national capital. Meanwhile a number of non-Pakistani tourists arrived at the checkpost today from Pakistan following the tense situation across the border.

The Border Security Force (BSF) stepped up vigil at the check post and along the 553 km long Indo-Pak border in Punjab.

Russia denies talks with Iran over S-300 missile shield delivery

Moscow, Dec 28 (UNI) Russia today denied media reports that it was conducting talks on the delivery of S-300 missile defence systems to Iran. ''The issue of the delivery of S-300 missile defence systems to Iran, raised by the media, is not a subject of current negotiations and has not been discussed with the Iranians,'' Russian Federal Agency for Military-Technical Cooperation said in a statement. Washington, Dec 28 (UNI) The man who assassinated Pakistan former prime minister Benazir Bhutto could have been working with any of the Islamic extremist groups, including al Qaeda, US intelligence officials and South Asia analysts claim.
