Bhutto's body flown to Sukkur for burial

Islamabad, Dec 28 (UNI) The body of former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, who was assassinated yesterday is being taken to Garhi Khuda Bakhsh for burial at her ancestral graveyard alongside her father today.

Her body was brought by C-130 flight to Sukkur Airport from where it was taken to Moenjodaro by helicopter. Her corpse was then shifted to an army helicopter and taken to Larkana.

Bhutto's husband Asif Ali Zardari, elder daughter Bakhtawar, younger daughter Asifa, son Bilawal, who had earlier arrived from Dubai accompanied the body.

PPP leaders Amin Fahim, Shery Rehman and 22 others were also taken to Larkana by a bus along with police escort.

The body would be taken from the Moenjodaro Airport to Garhi Khuda Bakhsh by ambulance.

Various groups were reaching Garhi Khuda Bakhsh from all over the country to attend the burial of Bhutto.

Party officials said they expected the funeral would be held today.

Bhutto's body was earlier taken from the hospital in Rawalpindi, where she was pronounced dead after the attack, to the airport.

Hundreds of distraught supporters bore her plain wooden coffin aloft from the hospital to an ambulance that took it to Rawalpindi's military airport.

The PPP chairperson succumbed to her serious injuries after a suicidal attack on her at the conclusion of public meeting at Liaquat Bagh in Rawalpindi, bringing the life and career of one of the world's most popular woman politicians to a violent and tragic end.

At least 25 others, most of them supporters of Pakistan People's Party (PPP), were killed and nearly 50 injured in the attack outside the park, where Pakistan's first Prime Minister Liaqat Ali Khan was also assassinated by an Afghan refugee in 1951.
