Azadi Express to arrive in Kerala on January 1

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 28 (UNI) Azadi Express, an exhibition on train portraying the first war of Independence in 1857, merciless suppression during the British Raj, evolution of India's freedom struggle and the emergence of post-independent India, will be reaching Kerala by the new year.

The public can watch the exhibition on wheels, organised by the Directorate of Advertising and Visual publicity (DAVP) at Ernakulam Railway Junction from January 1 to 3 and at Thiruvananthapuram Central Station from January 4 to 8, a release said here.

The exhibition, flagged off from Delhi on September, was in commemoration of the First War of Independence. The 13 coach train will criss-cross the length and breadth of the country. During its run, over a period of nine months, halting at different stations, Azadi Express aims at highlighting the sacrifice made by our freedom fighters, since 1857.

Spread over ten sections, the exhibition was also an earnest attempt to highlight the cherished history of our National awakening.

The pivotal role played by Indian National Congress, Mahatma Gandhi's Dandi March, Quit India Movement and the revolutionary INA under Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, were also part of the exhibition on Azadi Express, it said, adding that the final leg of the journey will be on May 8, 2008 from Meerut to Delhi.
