Amitabh immerses mother's ashes at Hardwar

Hardwar, Dec 28 (UNI) Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan today immersed the ashes of his mother Teji Bachchan in river Ganga here.

He was accompanied by his family, including wife Jaya Bachchan, younger brother Ajitabh, son Abhishekh, daughter-in-law Aishwariya Rai Bachchan and Samajwadi Party MP Amar Singh.

The rituals were performed by the family priests, Vinayak Goswami and Som Dutt Khairwal, amidst chanting of vedic hymns, at the VIP Ghat at about 1215 hrs.

The administration had made elaborate security arrangements. The office bearers of the Ganga Sabha boycotted the programme, protesting the performance of the rituals at the VIP Ghat instead of the famous Har-ki-Pauri.

It is the normal practice to immerse the ashes of the dead either at Har-ki-Pauri or at Sati Ghat Kankhal here.

The sources said the administration had shifted the venue of the immersion of the ashes due to security reasons.
