Alert in Haryana after Benazir's assassination

Chandigarh, Dec 28 (UNI) The Haryana Police has announced a general alert in the state in the wake of the assassination of former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in a suicide attack in Rawalpindi yesterday.

Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) R S Dalal told reporters here today that the general alert was announced last night as a precautionary measure after the news of Ms Bhutto's assassination came.

He said police force was extra vigilant and a special watch was being kept on all kinds of criminal activities in the state.

The Haryana Police would also review the security given to the VVIPs in the state in the wake of the yesterday's terror attack on Ms Bhutto in Pakistan, the DGP said.

Unorganised enterprises 17.07 million ; 71% in rural areas

New Delhi, Dec 29 (UNI) The number of unorganised manufacturing enterprises is estimated at 17.07 million in India, 71 per cent of these being in rural areas, the NSS 62nd Round survey Report released here today shows. Data for 2005-06 indicates that 29 per cent of these enterprises were located in urban areas. Kathmandu, Dec 28 (UNI) Leaders of Nepal's Terai have formed a regional outfit, Terai-Madhes Loktantrik Party, under the leadership of Mahantha Thakur, an influential former Nepali Congress leader, who left the party recently. The new party will campaign for the rights of Terai, it said. The party is formed after many armed groups came into existence in Terai since the ouster of monarchy last year.
