Adopt modern technology for self sufficiency in agri: Min

Srinagar, Dec 28 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Agriculture and Cooperative Abdul Aziz Zargar has stressed for adopting modern technology to achieve self-sufficiency in the agriculture sector.

The farmers should take advantage of research out come of scientists of Sher Kashmir University of Agriculture Science Technology (SKUAST) to increase the production in agriculture sector.

Meanwhile, the SKUAST is going to provide 2 lakh fruit saplings on 50 per cent subsidy to fruit growers in March and April next year.

Speaking to farmers at the Kissan Mela conducted at Malangpora, Pulwama and organised by Krishi Vighian Kendra in collaboration with Directorate of Extension Education, SKUAST, Mr Zargar impressed upon the farmers to adopt improved seeds to increase crop production.

He suggested them to plant 'Shireen' and 'Firdous' apple varieties in their orchards, which have been developed by agricultural scientists for better yields.

Director of Extension Education SKUAST said the university has recommended Kosahar, Barkat and 332 paddy seed varieties for hilly areas of the valley, while Jehlum and SRI paddy seed are suited for plain areas.

Centre to develop educational infrastructure in NE

Agartala, Dec 28 (UNI) The Empowered Committee has released Rs 51.87 crore for all the eight North East states during 2007-08 under Non- Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR) to improve infrastructure facilities. Trishakti Electronics receives Rs 3.15 cr from China-based company

New Delhi, Dec 28 (UNI) Kolkata-based Trishakti Electronics and Industries Ltd today said it has received Rs 3.15 crores from Liaohe Petroleum Exploration Bureau, China for their contract with ONGC for carrying out 3D seismic Data acquisition services. The above contract was terminated by ONGC as the final out of court settlement, the company said in a statement.
