Adampur coldest in Punjab at -0.6 degree Celsius

Jalandhar, Dec 28 (UNI) Adampur airbase near here today turned out to be the coldest place in Punjab, recording season's lowest temperature at minus 0.6 degree Celsius.

A Defence spokesperson said the holy city of Amritsar witnessed 0.6 degree Celsius while Halwara airbase near Ludhiana was cold at 2.8 degree Celsius.

The minimum temperature recorded at Pathankot was 3.6 degree, while in Bathinda it was 5.4 degree Celsius.

The Union Territory of Chandigarh was cold at 7.2 degree celsius, while Ambala in Haryana hovered around 4 degree.

In the state of Jammu and Kashmir, the minimum temperature in Srinagar plummeted to minus 7 degree, while in Jammu it recorded 6.6 degree and in Udhampur it was cold at zero degree.

For the next 24 hours, the weather office has predicted fog and mist in the morning and fine to fair sky during day and haze by evening.

Country's first Elephant Rehabilitation Center launched

Yamunanagar, Dec 28 (UNI) The first 'Elephant Rehabilitation Centre' of the country was launched at Bansantoor village in Chhachhrouli here by Haryana minister for Forest and Environment minister Kiran Chaudhary today. The centre sprawling over 50 acre land at a cost of Rs 90 lakh, was being set up on the pattern of a similar sanctuary in Thailand. It would be ready by March 2008. Wheat acreage goes upto 249 lakh ha, Rabi sowing progressing

New Delhi, Dec 28 (UNI) Wheat has been sown in 249.34 lakh ha as compared to 263.31 lakh ha at the end of last year, as per data compiled by Agriculture Ministry. The sowing is progressing well in the present Rabi season. So far, 4.01 lakh ha area has come under winter rice as against 2.58 lakh ha last year. Coarse cereals have been sown in 64.57 lakh ha as compared to 62.96 lakh ha by this time in.....

Cancer killing 20,000 a day across the world

London, Dec 28 (UNI) Despite modern researches to prevent cancer, the deadly disease continues to spread, killing about 20,000 people everyday across the world this year, recent figures show. According to the data compiled by the American Cancer Society, by the end of the year, there will have been more than 12 million new cases and 7.6 million deaths from the disease worldwide.
