2,870 income generating units set up


Srinagar, Dec 28: About 2,870 income generating units have been set up in the frontier district of Kupwara, once the hub of militants in north Kashmir.

An official spokesman said the units were set up till the end of September this year. An amount of Rs 40.17 crore has been distributed by various financial institutions among beneficiaries under various schemes in the district.

He said this information was given during a meeting of District level Consultative Committee held under the Chairmanship of District Development Commissioner, Kupwara. The representatives of financial institution, officers from line department and representatives of the RBI and NABARD were present in the meeting.

The meeting was informed that 65 per cent targets have been achieved under the Credit Action Plan.

Giving the sector wise details, it was informed that under services sector, 1158 units were established and financial assistance to the tune of Rs 21.86 crore disbursed.

Under agriculture sector, 1428 units have been set up with an assistance of Rs 16.67 crore which include 714 units under Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme. Like wise, under Industries sector 284 units were established with an assistance of Rs 1.62 crore.

Shia mourners wounded, arrested in Kashmir
