14 trapped as slab of building collapses in Thane

Thane, Dec 28 (UNI) At least fourteen people were feared trapped when a slab of an under-construction building collapsed tonight in the Wagle Estate locality of the city, police said.

The slab of the building, in which a mini Mall was coming up, came down at 1945 hrs, trapping the labourers.

Four Fire tenders and police have rushed to the spot and a massive rescue and relief opeartion was underway, police said.

Six of the injured were rushed to a local hospital.

Thane, Dec 28 (UNI) At least two persons were killed and fifteen others injured when a slab of an under-construction 'Infotech Park' collapsed tonight in Wagle Estate locality of the city, police said. The second floor slab of 'Ashar Infotech Park' came crashing down at 1945 hrs, trapping labourers engaged in work at the site. AMC leader injured, 3 family members killed in accident

Akola, Dec 28 (UNI) Congress House leader in Akola Municipal Corporation (AMC)--Jahruddin Badruddin Chavan and his nephew were seriously injured, while his wife, niece and the driver of the vehicle were killed in a road accident today. According to police, the accident took place between Karanga Bhaqdge and Kondhali village at Akola Nagpur road when their car collided head on with another car. The family was proceeding to Kamthi near Nagpur for attending the marriage of Mr Jahruddin's nephew......

Former BMC officer convicted in bribery case

Mumbai, Dec 28 (UNI) A special ACB court today sentenced a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation officer to two-years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and slapped a fine of Rs 30,000 in a 1998 bribery case. Pronouncing the judgement here, Additional Sessions Judge R R Gandhi said the accused Sharad Patil, former Shops and Establishment Inspector of BMC, has committed an offence punishable under sections 7, 13 (1) r/w 13 (2)(d) of Prevention of Corruption Act.
