Viva Kerala Chairman bags E C Bharatan Memorial award

Kozhikode, Dec 27 (UNI) Viva Kerala Soccer Club Chairman P Bhaskaran has been chosen for the maiden E C Bharatan Memorial Football award for his contribution to the field.

The award instituted by E C Bharatan Memorial Trust, carried a cash prize of Rs 15,000 and a citation, Trust Chairperson Prasilla Mascreneas told newspersons here today.

Kerala Forest Minister Benoy Viswom would present the award at a function here on January 13, he added.

Pravasi Bharati, a non-resident Indian outfit, also announced the names of 19 eminent personalities for its annual award.

Some of them were former Union Minister O Rajagopal, former Kerala Minister K Pankajakshan and Shobha Group Chairman PNC Menon.

The awards would be presented to them by the Union Minister of State for Law K Venkatapati at a function to celebrate the sixth 'Pravasi Bhrati (Kerala) Day' here on January 11.

Jyoti Basu says Taslima is welcome in Kolkata

Kolkata, Dec 25, 2007 : Indian Communists in eastern Kolkata acceded to the request of the federal government on December 25th to permit controversial Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen to stay in India's eastern West Bengal state, if she is given adequate security cover. Indian Insurance sector at boom

New Delhi, Dec 25, 2007 : According to a study by ASSOCHAM, the insurance sector is likely to grow by over 200% expected to cross the Rs 2,00,000 crore mark in business by 2010. The study named 'Insurance in Next Two Years' stated that the present size of the insurance sector is around Rs 50,000 crore, with an approximate Compound Annual Growth Rate or CAGR of 175 per cent in the last few years.
