Villagers demand competent official at Tamenglong

Imphal, Dec 27 (UNI) The Village Authority Chairman Council (VACC) has urged Manipur Chief Secretary Jarnail Singh to depute competent officials at Tamenglong district to look after the development activities.

VACC secretary Kaibonang Pamei said here today that some officials, posted at the Tamenglong district headquarters, were not attending office regularly, adding that the district administration was seriously affected.

The council alleged that the absence of officials had resulted in failure to implement the NREG Scheme and payment of the wages of the villagers after completion of the work.

''The Summary Electoral Roll Revision, 2007, slated for submission on December two, could not be completed due to the absence of officials,'' the secretary said.

''Besides, the election papers of the village authorities in the Tamenglong Block for submission to the Deputy Commissioner were not forwarded as notified,'' he added.

The VACC urged the state chief secretary to depute a competent official immediately in the interest of the villagers.
