SEZ Activists threaten tourists in Goa


Goa, Dec 25, 2007 : Activists in India's coastal tourist hub Goa have asked tourists to leave by December 28th as they threatened to intensify a month-long agitation against a slew of low tax Special Economic Zones (SEZs) being set up in the region.

The agitation by the Goa Movement Against SEZs, GMAS, a group that has the support of NGOs and political parties including main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party, could spoil Goa's famed Christmas and New Year bash.

CPM for all-party meet on Parliament disruptions

New Delhi, Dec 18: Regretting that important issues like women reservation, SEZ and the approach paper of the eleventh plan could not be taken up in Parliament due to frequent disruptions, the CPI(M) today demanded that the government call an all-party meet to find ways to ensure smooth running of the Houses. ''People are greatly agitated over the fact that no discussion took place on issues like the Sachar Committee report and the deepening agrarian.....
