ULFA rebel escapes after encounter with Army

Tinsukia, Dec 27 (UNI) A senior ULFA hitman and two other cadres escaped after a fierce encounter with troops of the six Jammu and Kashmir Rifles in Upper Assam's Tinsukia district today.

'Sergeant Major' of the 'C Company' of the ULFA's main strikeforce, 28th Battalion, Jun Bhuyan managed to escape after a 20-minute gunbattle with the troops at Lohali village near Dangori reserve forest, Commanding Officer of the 6 J&K Rifles APS Rajora informed.

A SULFA man, identified as Shimanta Chetia, was said to be accompaying the army troops during the patrolling when the encounter took place.

Rajora said the Army spotted the three rebels, clad in white, black and red, from far when they opened fire on the troops.

There was no casualty on either side.

Combing operations were on in the area till the filing of this report.

62 booked for drunken driving in police drive in run up to New Year

New Delhi, Dec 27 (UNI) The Delhi police have booked 62 people for drunken driving from various parts of the city. A Delhi Police spokesperson said the 62 people were booked as part of a a special drive by the Delhi police to maintain law and order in the run up to the the New Year. BSF on high alert after Bhuto's assassination
