Shipyard to come up at Haldia with Rs 2000 Cr.

Kolkata, Dec 27 (UNI) The West Bengal government has decided to acquire four mouzas under Sutahata police station in Haldia for setting up of a shipyard with a cost of Rs 2000 crore, state Chief Secretary Amit Kiran Deb said today.

Mr Deb told mediapersons after a cabinet meeting that in all 500 acres of land would be acquired in Mahishadal, Madur, Sutahata and Nabagram for setting up the shipyard.

The project was a joint venture between Bengal Shipyard and APJ Surendra Group which would create employment opportunities for 3000 people, he added.

Mr Deb said the total investment for the project was estimated at Rs 2000 crore.

He also informed that a car's spare parts manufacturing unit was coming up at Guptamani near Kharagpur in collaboration of West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation(WBIDC), West Bengal Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (WBIIDC) and SREI.

Referring to the government's measures for improving the education sector, Mr Deb said the government has decided to appoint 4900 and 2700 new teachers for secondary and higher secondary schools respectively.

He said 1050 non-teaching staffs would be recruited for the secondary schools while the number would be 900 in case of higher secondary schools.

Cases of domestic violence main reason of women atrocity: SWC

Bokaro, Dec 27 (UNI) State Women Commission Chairperson Lakshmi Singh today said that cases of domestic violence and dowry deaths were major concern for women in Jharkhand. Talking to reporters here, Ms Singh said cases related to witchcraft killing had also increased in the rural areas of the state. Ms Singh said the state government should form certain rules and expedite awareness programmes to check violence against women, adding that women themselves should be aware of their rights. CTC makes brisk business in Kolkata tea auction

Kolkata, Dec 27 (UNI) All Assam variety of CTC quality made very good business all over the country, especially in its Western parts, with good export of larger brokens. According to a Kolkata Brokers statistics the CTC variety made sales of about 2,862,389 kgs, followed by dust variety that sold about 2,750,131 kgs and major blenders and Tata Tea were active. The orthodox variety of tea had sales of about 754,391 kgs, with whole leaf grades being irregular around.....
