Secretaries to be responsible if funds remain unspent: Marandi

Dumka, Dec 27 (UNI) Jharkhand Deputy Chief Minister Stephen Marandi today said departmental secretaries would be held responsible if funds allocated for developmental projects for this fiscal remain unutilised.

Expressing concern over the slow expenditure of departmental funds in the state, Mr Marandi said in last nine months only 30 to 35 per cent money had been spent by various departments.

Speaking at a function here Mr Marandi said, ''The departmental secretaries concerned would be held responsible if they fail to spend the money as there was no dearth of funds for the welfare schemes.'' Mr Marandi, who also holds the finance portfolio, said the FRBM Act had been implemented in the state to enhance its source of income and according to the Act, it was essential to spend the funds earmarked for any fiscal.

Refering to availabilty of mineral resoruces in the state, Mr Marnadi said these resources could lead to employment opportunities for the youth, as number of industrial houses were interested in establishing their units in the state.

Speaking on establishing engineering college here, Mr Marandi said approximately Rs 10 crore had been allocated in the first phase for construction of the college building proposed to be built in the next two years.

GAIL and OIL to bid jointly in NELP-VII

New Delhi, Dec 27 (UNI) Gail and OIL India Ltd (OIL) today said the two companies will jointly participate in potential blocks, mainly onshore and offshore in the forthcoming NELP VII bidding round. The two companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for joint cooperation in various business areas where the two public center enterprises will also examine the possibility of joint bidding for overseas exploration blocks and also securing farm-in options in already awarded exploration blocks in India and abroad......

Parts of Dal freeze as temp. dipped to -4.4

Srinagar, Dec 27 (UNI) Parts of the world famous Dal Lake were again partially forzen early this morning after the minimum temperature dipped to minus 4.4 degree celsius, 2.5 degree below normal. However, Drass, second coldest place in the world after Siberia, was coldest in the state with minimum temperature recorded at minus 20 degree while at Leh it was minus 16.8 degree and kargil recorded 16, official sources said. Truck, bus strike in UP from New Year to protest VAT

Lucknow, Dec 27 (UNI) The Tranport Associations of Uttar Pradesh today announced an indefinte strike from January 1 to protest the implementation of Value Added Tax (VAT) regime in the state. The agitating transporters said they would continue the strike and not ply trucks or buses in the state till the present VAT structure was amended. Under the new tax regime, transporters have been identified as dealers in the business of transport and they will have to submit Form 14 to.....
