Satellite phone recovered, hideout busted in Mendhar

Jammu, Dec 27 (UNI) In a joint operation today, troops of Army and Special Operation Group (SOG) busted a hideout in tehsil Mendhar of Poonch district, official sources here said.

Sources said that on tip off, search operation was launched this afternoon by the SOG and 37 Rashtriya Rifles in Mendhar and a hideout was busted.

''A satellite phone, a revolver, pouch (19), IED fitted radio set, a wireless set and antennae, three pistol magazines, Pakistan based re-charge coupons (12) and other explosive material was recovered from the site of the hideout, sources told UNI

No high handedness while dealing with farmers: Mayawati

Lucknow, Dec 27 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has directed the Bundelkhand administration not to engage in high-handed treatment with the farmers, while recovering dues upto Rs 1 lakh. Addressing a meeting at her residence , the CM said the District Magistrate and the Deputy District Magistrate of the district would be held responsible for any harassement to farmers. Mandalapooja held at lord Ayyappa temple

Pathanamthitta, Dec 27 (UNI) The auspicious 'Mandala pooja' was held at Sabarimala lord Ayyappa temple today marking the culmination of 41-day-long 'Mandalam' pilgrimage season. Tantri Kantaru Maheswarary led the ritual performed between 1229 hrs and 1240 hrs in 'Meenam Rasi.' The Ayyappa idol was adorned with 'Thanka Anki' brought from Aranmula Parthasarathi temple. Earlier, the 'Neyyabhishekam' was stopped at 1000 hrs. Then 'Kalabha pooja' began at 1030 hrs at the Eastern 'Mandapam' under the guidance of Tantri Kantaru Maheswarary,.....

Leaders condemn attack on Christians in Orissa

New Delhi, Dec 27 (UNI) Former Prime Minister V P Singh and CPI(M) leader and MP Brinda Karat today condemned the attack on the ''poor Christians'' in Orissa calling it 'unfortunate and appalling''. They were part of a peaceful prayer for peace dharna and a candlelight vigil held at the Orissa Niwas this evening to protest the continuing violence against the Christians since December 25. Several political leaders, social activists and religious leaders gathered to condemn the attacks on the community.....
