Rice mill owner hacked to death, assailants flee

Kancheepuram, Dec 27 (UNI) Two unidentified assailants hacked to death a rice mill owner and inflicted cut injuries on another, triggering tension in this temple town this morning.

Police said Paramasivam (55), owner of a rice mill was returning on his moped from a tea shop, when the assailants, riding a motorcycle, attacked him with a sickle.

When one Mr Durai, who was passing by the way, tried to come to the rescue of the rice mill owner, the assailants attacked him also with deadly weapons.

The victims, who fell down in a pool of blood, were rushed to Kancheepuram Government Hospital. While Paramasivam, who was referred to Government General Hospital in Chennai, died on the way to the hospital, Durai was admitted to the Kancheepuram Government Hospital.

After committing the crime, the assilants sped away on their motorcycle, police said. District Superintendent of Police Periaiyah, after visiting the spot, formed four special teams to nab the culprits.
