Preserve country's linguistic diversity: Karnataka Governor

Bangalore, Dec 27 (UNI) Karnataka Governor Rameshwar Thakur today called for preserving the linguistic diversity of the country.

Inaugurating the 80th Conference of Nikhil Bharat Banga Sahithya Sammelan (NBBSS) here, the Governor said Karnataka had the distinction of building a bridge, linking diverse cultures and linguistic people of the country.

The state had hosted two NBBSS conferences in 1959 and 1993.

Recalling the contribution of Bengalis to the world of literature, he said Bangalore city had been continuously attracting young talents from West Bengal.

Union Minister for External Affairs Pranab Mukherjee, who spoke on the occasion, said relations between the people of Karnataka and West Bengal dates back to several centuries.

''The bond between Karnataka and West Bengal was at a peak in the period of Emperor Vikramadithya of the Chalukya dynasty,'' Mr Mukherjee said.

Over 500 delegates from various parts of the country, including West Bengal, Jharkhand, Orissa, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and New Delhi were attending the three-day NBBSS.

power corporation gifts 'VDS' to consumers in the new year

Hisar, Dec 27 (UNI) Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) has introduced Voluntary Disclosure Scheme (VDS) for unauthorised extension of load for all categories of consumers, including domestic, non-domestic, agriculture and industrial, in its area. A spokesman for DHBVN said here today that the VDS is meant for domestic, non-domestic, tubewell and industrial consumers in urban as well as rural area for declaring their unauthorized load voluntarily to get it regularised with out paying any penalty. Power transmission to be strengthened in Sonepat

Chandigarh, Dec 27 (UNI) In order to further strengthen the transmission and distribution network in district Sonepat, the Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam and Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam have jointly initiated various developmental works under which one 400 KV sub-station has been planned to be set up during 11th five year plan at Mohana. The existing 33 KVsub-station Bega would be upgraded to 132 KV level and new 33 KV sub-stations will be set up at Sisana, Bhogipur and Bichpari with.....

Foundation laid for Rs 16.74 crore Kharkhoda Bi-pass

Sonepat, Dec 27 (UNI) Secretary Union Ministry of Urban Development M. Ram Chandran today laid the foundation of Rs 16.74 crore Kharkhoda Bi- pass which is to be constructed within one year. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Ram Chandaran said the Bi-Pass for which Haryana government spent around Rs. Seven crore for acquisition of land, will be 9 meter wide, 5.50 Kms long and will connect Gopalpur road, Sahadurgarh road, Sampla road, Matindu road, Rohtak road, Sonepat road and Thana.....
