No high handedness while dealing with farmers: Mayawati

Lucknow, Dec 27 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has directed the Bundelkhand administration not to engage in high-handed treatment with the farmers, while recovering dues upto Rs 1 lakh.

Addressing a meeting at her residence , the CM said the District Magistrate and the Deputy District Magistrate of the district would be held responsible for any harassement to farmers.

The Chief Minister told the cabinet secretary that she will visit the drought-hit Hamirpur along with senior administrative officers tomorrow to take stock of the situation.

The BSP supremo further directed the officials to speed up the relief work at Bundelkhand area.

She also ordered to submit a list of people falling the Below Poverty Line (BPL) before New Year, besides directing them to keep an eye over the irregularities while distributing 'rasion' to the poors.

To give relief to drought victims, she ordered the administration to rebore the damaged handpumps and dried wells.
