Mayawati condemns Bhutto's assassination

Lucknow, Dec 27 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today condemned the assassination of former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, saying the sub-continent has lost a leader, who worked for democracy and reconciliaton in her country.

''Ms Bhutto was as popular as her father...she was an eminent figure in Pakistani political life. The political stalwart became the Pakistan PM twice,'' Mayawati said in a condolence message.

Appealing to Pakistani people that Bhutto's assassination should strengthen the resolve to fight terrorism, she underlined ''the fatal attack on the former PM does not unveil a brave face. It is the most inhuman act.'' Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state preident Rama Pati Ram Tripathi said ''Bhutto's killing is an assassination of democracy.'' Expressing shock, Congress Legislature Party leader Pramod Tiwari said ''the horrendous act has shaken peace loving people from the core of their heart. Bhutto's killing has revealed that terrorism is deep-rooted in Pakistan.'' UNI

Christians demand CBI inquiry into Kandhmal communal clash

Bhubaneswar, Dec 27 (UNI) The Christian community in Orissa today demanded a CBI inquiry to probe into the brain behind the communal clash in Kandhmal district. 47 projects worth Rs 6396 crore under JNNURM sanctioned

Mumbai, Dec 27 (UNI) As many as 47 projects under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), worth Rs 6396 crore, have been sanctioned for the state and the state was committed to take a lead in developing infrastructure in urban areas, Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said here today. Porbandar 'Bandh' to protest against attack on businessman

Porbandar, Dec 27 (UNI) Business establishments remained closed in the city today to protest the attack on a businessman, allegedly by BJP Councillor Ramji Lodhari and two others. The 'Bandh' call was given by the business fraternity in the city.
