Karnataka claims girls singles, doubles titles

Nellore, Dec 27 (UNI) Karnataka tonight won the girls singles and doubles titles in the Junior National Badminton Championship here.

In the finals, fourth seeded V Ruth Misha of Karnataka defeated third seeded N Sikki Reddy of Andhra Pradesh 21-23, 21-17, 21-12.

In the doubles finals, Karnataka's Aswhini Ponnappa and Nitya Sosale trounced P C Thulasi (Ker) and N Sikki Reddy (AP) 16-21, 27-25, 21-17.

Meanwhile, top seeded R M V Guru Sai Dutt of Andhra Pradesh won the boys singles title by defeating fourth seeded Abhimanyu Singh of Madhya Pradesh 17-21, 21-13, 21-17.

Kerala's Bennet Antony and P H Suraj won the boys doubles title defeating Arun Nandaluri (Air India) and Anil Kumar Raju (AP) 21-17, 21-18.

Constable dies after consuming illicit liquor

Thrissur, Kerala, Dec 27 (UNI) A police constable died and three others, including a policeman, were admitted to the hospital today after they consumed illicit arrack in a lodge here yesterday. The deceased was identified as Hari (38), a native of Nedumangadu in Thiruvananthapuram. The victims had consumed the illicit arrack along with Indian made foreign liquor at a party arranged on the eve of the marriage of Cheruthuruthy police station driver Shigil. Man plans to buy airport, creates flutter

Chennai, Dec 27 (UNI) A 45-year-old man created a flutter at the Anna international airport here, when he tried to force entry into the airport this evening. Police said the man, clad in a dhoti and shirt, was stopped by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel and handed over to the airport police. The man, who appeared to be mentally deranged, gave contradictory replies and even told the police that he came here to have a look at the airport,.....

IMA state president elections: HC sets aside court's order

Mumbai, Dec 27 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today set aside a Pune court order, restraining the newly-elected Indian Medical Association(IMA) Maharashtra branch president Dr Devendra Shirole to take charge of office. A single judge bench of Justice J N Patel directed Pune District and Sessions Judge to submit an enquiry report as to how a civil suit challenging IMA state body elections was entertained by Civil Judge Senior Division, when as per the court manual the suit should have.....
