Haryana players stage dharna on the court

Jaipur, Dec 27 (UNI) Following the insident of alleged man handling of the players by the hosts, Haryana players along with players from some more teams staged a dharna in protest, which was ultimately removed after the apology expressed by the organising secretary of the 56the Senior National Volleyball Championship at the SMS Indoor hall here today.

In the meantime, Volleyball Federation of India (VFI) control committee reduced the ban over Haryana captain Amir Singh and coach Omprakash for only one match. Earlier the control committee on a complaint of misbeheavior lodged by the referee PK Jaganath of Haryana and Services tie had put a ban of two matches over the captain Amir and expelsion of the coach for the remaining part of the championship.

This decision has been taken on a request by Haryana State Volleyball Association secretary Sube Singh, remarked VFI Control Committee chairman ND Sharma.

Mr Ramavtar Singh Jhakhar, the organising secretary said that an early seen was created last night by three Haryana players when they tried to take dinner without producing meal coupen. On the demand of producing coupen, the players misbehaved breaking plates etc. He too alleged that the players were drunk. When the local volunters tried to stop them they started fighting. Before the police personels reached there, all of them run away.

Haryana captain Amir Singh said that it was wrong to allege the players as drunk as they had come from the court after playing the match. How could it be possible to allege them drunk. This is a fact that two of their players had missed the coupens but lateron the action of persons deployed at the dinning hall was not desireable, he remarked.

When matches scheduled for the day were to begin, Haryana players staged a dharna along with players from Uttranchal, Assam. Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi demanding appology from the organising secretary. The matter was resolved after the same was done. Due to this the matches could not be played for one and half an hour.

AP Govt paying Rs 876 per quintal for A grade paddy variety

Hyderabad, Dec 27 (UNI) The Civil Supplies Department in Andhra Pradesh is procuring A grade variety of paddy from farmers at the rate of Rs 876 and for common variety at Rs 837 per quintal.
