Haj aspirants cheated of Rs 4.5 lakh; agent arrested

Nashik, Dec 27 (UNI) A case of cheating of Haj pilgrimage aspirants has come to light in Malegaon town of the district.

According to police, Hilal Ahmed Naseem Ahmed, owner of Al Hilal Tours and Travels company in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, had taken a sum of Rs 4,48,000 from Ansari Abdul Zakir Aziz (40), a resident of Malegaon, in November 2007 assuring him passports and other arrangements for some Haj aspirants.

Ansari, who arranges Haj tours for people, had collected a sum of Rs 4,48,000 from 11 people in Malegaon, who wanted to go on the Haj pilgrimage.

However, when for a long time he didn't arrange the passports or return the money Ansari realised that he has been cheated and lodged a complaint with Azadnagar police in Malegoan.

Azadnagar police arrested Hilal Ahmed Naseem Ahmed and a case has been registered under sections 420 and 34 of the Indian Penal code (IPC) in the matter.

Police Sub Insepctor A S B Patil is investigating the case and a team of Malegoan police will go to Gujarat for further investigations soon, police said.

Gaothans, Koliwadas, Adivasi Paadas to get FSI of 4: Mayor

Mumbai, Dec 27 (UNI) Gaothans (ancient buildings), Koliwadas and Adivasi Paadas in the city would get a boost from the State Government and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, Mumbai Mayor Shubha Raul said here today. Speaking to the media, Dr Raul said, ''Gaothans, Koliwadas and Adivasi Paadas will be given the Floor Space Index (FSI) of 4, after BMC's proposal is cleared by the State Government.'' She said the Corporation had asked Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh to lift the stay.....

Indian spice exports up by 26 per cent

Kochi, Dec 27(UNI) The Export of spices and spices products from the country during April-November 2007 recorded a rise of 26 per cent in terms of value. During April-November 2007, the country's total export of spices and spices products were estimated to be 286,302 tonnes valued at Rs 2.8 crore as against 238,334 tonnes valued at Rs 2.25 crore during April-November 2006, according to a press release. Minority organisations demand ban on VHP

Mumbai, Dec 27 (UNI) Various minority organisations in the city today protested the attack on as many as 24 churches and Christian institutions in Orissa, allegedly by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and demanded President's rule in Orissa as well as a ban on VHP. Maharashtra Minorities Commission Vice Chairman Dr Abraham Mathai, while speaking to UNI, said, ''We are protesting against the attack on Christian institutions and churches by VHP, wherein two persons were killed and several others injured, and.....
