Girl rescued from NGO head's captivity after 3 months in J

Jammu, Dec 27 (UNI) A chairman of a Non-Government Organisation (NGO) was arrested for allegedly raping a girl, whom he had kept in an illegal confinement for the last three months, in Kathua district, official sources today said.

Chinar Handicrafts (NGO) chairman Shahnawaz, son of Nabi Baksh, a resident of Gandoh (Doda district), was arrested by police from Billawar area of Kathua yesterday, sources said.

Shahnawaz had kept the girl under illegal confinement, and raped her repeatedly on the pretext of providing a government job.

The accused, who had also taken Rs 2 lakh from six persons on the assurance of arranging government jobs for them, claimed that his NGO had the headquarters at Anantnag, sources said.

Police have registered a case against him under sections 419, 420 and 376 of RPC, and started further investigation.

CTC makes brisk business in Kolkata tea auction

Kolkata, Dec 27 (UNI) All Assam variety of CTC quality made very good business all over the country, especially in its Western parts, with good export of larger brokens. According to a Kolkata Brokers statistics the CTC variety made sales of about 2,862,389 kgs, followed by dust variety that sold about 2,750,131 kgs and major blenders and Tata Tea were active. The orthodox variety of tea had sales of about 754,391 kgs, with whole leaf grades being irregular around.....

Bhibhuti Pattnaik to receive Sahitya Bharati Samman

Bhubaneswar, Dec 27 (UNI) Renowned Novelist Dr Bibhuti Pattnaik will be honoured with the prestigious 'Sahitya Bharati Samman' for his contribution to the field of Oriya literature. During the last five decades, Mr Pattnaik, trend-setter in Oriya novels from social realism to socialist realism, had written about 50 novels, two collections of short stories. NTPC to raise Rs 2,000 cr through loans, bonds

New Delhi, Dec 27 (UNI) National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd (NTPC) today said it will raise Rs 2,000 crores towards capex through loans and bonds from the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC). The company will raise Rs 1,000 crores in loans and and equal amount through a bond subscription agreement. The amount will be utilised for NTPC's capital expenditure of its power generation projects, coal mining business, enovation and modernisation activity and LNG business.
