Gaothans, Koliwadas, Adivasi Paadas to get FSI of 4: Mayor

Mumbai, Dec 27 (UNI) Gaothans (ancient buildings), Koliwadas and Adivasi Paadas in the city would get a boost from the State Government and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, Mumbai Mayor Shubha Raul said here today.

Speaking to the media, Dr Raul said, ''Gaothans, Koliwadas and Adivasi Paadas will be given the Floor Space Index (FSI) of 4, after BMC's proposal is cleared by the State Government.'' She said the Corporation had asked Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh to lift the stay it had imposed on the development of these areas.

According to BMC records, there are 89 Gaothans, 20 Koliwadas and over 27 Adivasi Paadas in the Corporation limits, and the new rule will be implemented in these areas.

''Most of the constructions in these areas are not given permission to carry out the repair work and are generally demolished by the Corporation,'' Dr Raul said.

She said the new rule, if cleared, will benefit these areas as there would be enough infrastructure and construction there.

The residents of Gaothans, Koliwadas and Adivasi Paadas would be given permission to use the FSI and the same will not be applicable to builders or developers, the Mayor added.
