Bhubaneswar, Dec 27 (UNI) The Orissa government today sought five more companies of the CRPF for deployment in the strife torn Kandhmal where fresh violence killed three people and Gajapati Superintendent of Police sustained wounds.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who air dashed to the trouble torn areas this morning and reviewed the law and order situation in Phulbani, told reporters that three companies of CRPF had been deployed in the area and five more companies of paramilitary forces were sought to tackle the volatile situation.
Mr Patnaik said the situation was tense but ''we are trying to control it'' adding that more state police and paramilitary forces would be deployed in Kandhamal district to restore normalcy.
The Chief Minister said reports of three more deaths were reported in the district today, but a full report of the casualty was still awaited.
Gajapati's Superintendent of Police Amitendra Nath Sinha was injured in fresh violence and the details were awaited, Mr Patnaik said.
On the demands for a CBI inquiry into the communal clashes both by the Christian organisations, the Chief Minister said '' we will see what can be done''.
Earlier in the morning, the Chief Minister said the situation in Kandhmal had been normalised and a peace committee had been formed in different places to restore and maintain peace and normalcy.
When asked whether he would consider the demands of the Kui Samaj, the Chief Minister said the grievances and request of the people would be looked into and their problems sorted out.
The Kui Samaj has been demanding not to accord SC status to the converted Christians.
The Chief Minister, who reviewed the situation at Phulbani along with Director General of Police G C Nanda, Inspector General of Police, DIG, Revenue Divisional Commissioner(Southern Range) and other officers, admitted that some churches and prayer houses were damaged during the last four days and one people died in the communal clash.
State Home Secretary Tarunkanti Mishra said no untoward incident was reported from the district since last afternoon and hoped that the situation would be normal by this evening.
He said about 4,000 trees were cut to prevent traffic during the last four days. Most of the roads had been cleared with the help of the Disaster Rapid Action Force.
