Four killed in Nawaz Sharif's poll rally

Islamabad: At least four people were shot dead and several wounded at an election campaign rally for former Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday, police said.

"There are four dead and others are wounded," senior Islamabad police official Syed Kalim Imam said.

Security agencies in Pakistan had been put on high alert following an intelligence report that terrorists may strike in the city and target top politicians and religious leaders.

Islamabad, May 21: Exiled former Pakistani premiers, Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif, vowed to return home regardless of President Pervez Musharraf's refusal to let them in the country before a general election due later this year. London, July 9: Pakistan opposition politicians yesterday vowed to boycott what they fear will be unfair elections in their home country but bickered over more concrete measures to overcome the military rule of President Pervez Musharraf.
