Food poisoning: 97 students hospitalised

Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, Dec 27 (UNI) As many as 97 students of a panchayat union school were hospitalised for suspected food poisoning after they partook noon meals at the school at Oothukadu village in Kumbakonam in this district today.

Police sources said the students, including 50 girls, were rushed to the Kumbakonam Government Hospital after they started vomiting and fainted.

Hospital sources said the children were out of danger. However, they would be kept under observation in the hospital till tomorrow.

Tamil Nadu Statistics and Ex-servicemen Minister Ko Si Mani visited the children at the hospital and directed the hospital authorities to provide proper treatment to them.

Puducherry, Dec 27 (UNI) Three members of National Wage Board for working journalists and non-journalists of newspapers and news agencies today held discussions with Puducherry Labour Minister E Valsaraj. Centre sends additional force to Orissa following communal clashes

New Delhi, Dec 27 (UNI) The Centre has despatched additional para military forces to Orissa following the state government's request in view of the communal clashes between tribals and Christians. The Centre was keeping a close watch on situation witnessed between tribals and Christians in Kandhmal district. Special Secretary M Kumawat spoke to the Director General of Police (DGP) of Orissa Gopal Chandra Nanda to get details of the incidents and the situation in the state. No high handedness while dealing with farmers: Mayawati

Lucknow, Dec 27 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has directed the Bundelkhand administration not to engage in high-handed treatment with the farmers, while recovering dues upto Rs 1 lakh. Addressing a meeting at her residence , the CM said the District Magistrate and the Deputy District Magistrate of the district would be held responsible for any harassement to farmers.
