CTC makes brisk business in Kolkata tea auction

Kolkata, Dec 27 (UNI) All Assam variety of CTC quality made very good business all over the country, especially in its Western parts, with good export of larger brokens.

According to a Kolkata Brokers statistics the CTC variety made sales of about 2,862,389 kgs, followed by dust variety that sold about 2,750,131 kgs and major blenders and Tata Tea were active.

The orthodox variety of tea had sales of about 754,391 kgs, with whole leaf grades being irregular around last closely following quality. A similar pattern was noticed in larger brokens.

The CIS shippers were active in this variety with fair support from West Asia. There was also moderate business in northern parts of the country.

Darjeeling variety of tea also made fairly good business, steady especially in well made improved whole leaf. Brokens were firm to dearer following quality as well as fannings saw irregular sale being lower following quality. Major Blenders and other packeteers rendered good support with local buyers being more active than the traditional exporters.

Rakesh Sood appointed Ambassador to Nepal

New Delhi, Dec 27 (UNI) Mr Rakesh Sood, presently Ambassador to Afghanistan, has been appointed envoy to Nepal replacing Mr Shivshanker Mukherjee will be the new High Commissioner in London. Mr Mukherjee will replace Mr Kamalesh Sharma who was elected Commonwealth Secretary General at the Commonwealth Heads of Government (CHOGM) meet in Kampala (Uganda) recently, sources said.
