Constable dies after consuming illicit liquor

Thrissur, Kerala, Dec 27 (UNI) A police constable died and three others, including a policeman, were admitted to the hospital today after they consumed illicit arrack in a lodge here yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Hari (38), a native of Nedumangadu in Thiruvananthapuram.

The victims had consumed the illicit arrack along with Indian made foreign liquor at a party arranged on the eve of the marriage of Cheruthuruthy police station driver Shigil.

Though over 30 people had taken part in the party, only four were affected badly, possibly, due to excess consumption.

However, police registered a case and one person, identified as Manoj of Mattamppuram, near here, was taken into custody. The remaining arrack was recovered from the lodge.

Fresh violence in Kandhmal: Orissa seeks more CRPF jawans

Bhubaneswar, Dec 27 (UNI) The Christian community in Orissa today demanded a CBI inquiry to probe into the brain behind the communal clash in Kandhmal district. Arguments on Polavaram inconclusive

Hyderabad, Dec 27 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh High Court today heard arguments on a writ petition filed by the State Government, questioning the National Environmental Appellate Authority's decision to cancel environmental clearance for the Polavaram Project. The counsel for the state government told the Division Bench, comprising Ms Justice T Meena Kumari and Ms Justice G Rohini, that the Appellate Authority went far beyond its jurisdiction and authority.
